Don't divide counties

A primary concern of mine is that our whole county be in the same district, U.S. House, State Senate, and State House. Our center of government is the county seat and it is not good to be split off from the county seat in any districting.See More

Thanks to Todd

As Todd heads to Congress we should all thank him for his efforts on redistricting reform. He has established and developed this website. It has been a success as evidenced by the number of members who have joined. There is still much work to be done to convince the legislature of the importance of this effort. I hope that the new Secretary of State will continue this effort and fight hard for this reform. As soon as the 2010 census figures are available I hope that the members of Rethinking…See More

I think an other thing that should be kept in mind should be the make-up of the community represented. For example, the Indianapolis 9-county metro area has approximately 1/3 of the population of the state. If we were to split the state into nine…

Comment on the New Mexico article

I agree with the creation of a Redistricting Commission as long as they establish a set of fair rules for the redistricting process, solicit plans from the public (anyone, even the elected officials can submit plans), and select the plans (congressional, state senate, and state house) that best satisfy the rules. There should be a grading system to evaluate the plans in each of the categories (compactness, population deviation, fragmentation of governmental units, and compliance with the Voting…See More
